LOS ANGELES -- Marian Gaborik spent the last few months living at the beach and scoring clutch goals for the eventual Stanley Cup champions. The star left wing saw absolutely no reason to wake up from his dream life with the Los Angeles Kings. Gaborik agreed to a seven-year deal Wednesday to stay with the Kings, passing on the financial possibilities of unrestricted free agency to stay with the champs. According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the deal has an average annual value of $4.875 million. The deal will pay Gaborik $6.075 million in each of the first three years, and then amounts of $5.075 million, $4.575 million, $3.175 million, and $3.075 million over the final four seasons of the package. "I know I could get maybe more money if I would have gone to free agency, but it wasnt about money," Gaborik said. "I wanted to stay here and be part of a great team." Los Angeles acquired the Slovak scoring machine from Columbus on March 5, and he was an immediate hit. Gaborik scored 16 points in 19 regular-season games before leading the NHL with 14 post-season goals during the Kings run to their second title in three years. Kings general manager Dean Lombardi struck a long-term deal before Gaborik became a free agent next week. Gaboriks contract is worth roughly $34 million, likely less than a seven-time 30-goal scorer would have commanded on the open market. The 32-year-old Gaborik was coy about his future during the Kings draining playoff run, saying he would make those decisions after the season. Away from the public, Gaborik had clearly formed a plan. "All along I wanted to stay here," Gaborik said. "The organization knew it, the players knew it, everybody knew it, my agent knew it. I believed we could get it done." Playing on the Kings top line alongside centre Anze Kopitar and captain Dustin Brown, Gaborik scored 22 points in 26 post-season games with the Kings before raising the Stanley Cup for the first time in his 13-season NHL career. Gaboriks 14 goals were one shy of Wayne Gretzkys franchise post-season record. He repeatedly scored in important situations for the Kings, including the tying goals late in two Stanley Cup finals games and in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals against Chicago. Gaborik filled an enormous need for the Kings, who acquired him in a bid to boost one of the NHLs least productive offences. Gaboriks goal-scoring talent fit perfectly with Kopitar, one of hockeys top playmakers, as the Kings improbably became the highest-scoring team in the playoffs. "To play along Kopi, probably one of the top centres in the league, just the way we clicked pretty quickly was great," Gaborik said. Gaborik also showed a willingness to play responsible defensive hockey in coach Darryl Sutters system, which further endeared him to his fellow Kings. He was embraced after the club acquired him for Matt Frattin and two draft picks, even moving into fellow ex-Columbus forward Jeff Carters home near the beach. Gaborik clearly loves the Kings lifestyle along with their playing style. He recently posted a series of photos on Instagram showing him celebrating at the Pacific Ocean -- running down the beach, lifting the Cup over his head while shirtless in the surf, and helping his girlfriend drink champagne from the trophy while his mother laughed in the background. "I knew right away: Great group of guys, great team, great fans, and obviously being in a great environment in terms of lifestyle and everything," Gaborik said. "That made a lot of sense for me. The No. 1 thing is winning a Cup and having a chance year after year, going into these games and having a chance to win every game." The Kings are the fourth NHL team for Gaborik, who mostly met enormous expectations while playing for the New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild. But the three-time NHL All-Star has struggled with injuries in the past two seasons while getting traded twice. Gaborik has scored 704 career points, and he ranks 13th among active players with 347 goals, including three 40-goal seasons. He is a two-time Olympian for Slovakia, but missed the Sochi Games with an injury. Just as it did in 2012, Los Angeles championship team will return nearly intact in the fall. The Kings re-signed defenceman Matt Greene to a four-year contract on Tuesday, and their only significant unrestricted free agent is veteran defenceman Willie Mitchell. The Kings have several long-term contracts on their books, yet Lombardi has scarcely made an inaccurate move in the last five years while building his two-time champions. "To be a part of this, Im pretty happy about it," Gaborik said. "Hopefully we can just keep this train rolling." Chase Daniel Bears Jersey . Samir Nasris 88th-minute equalizer at Etihad Stadium will be of little consolation to City, which is now six points behind league leader Liverpool and four points behind second-place Chelsea. Third-place City has a game in hand but the surprise result against Sunderland, coupled with Sundays 3-2 loss at Liverpool, may be a setback too far in its bid for a second championship in three seasons. James Daniels Jersey . Its Wu-Tang and Outkast in the final. Now, we all know youve played the role of Andre 3000 in the past, does that mean Outkast is getting your vote?AJ: You know it, you know it. http://www.bearsfootballpro.com/Authenti...Bears_Jersey/.C. -- Benn Ferrieros familiar with scoring important goals, just not in back-to-back games. Rose scored 23 points in his return from a five-game absence due to back pain, and Chicago hung on to beat the struggling Atlanta Hawks 90-79 on Monday. Cody Parkey Jersey . And thats good news for Canada. Kelly, who plays No. 8 at the back of the scrum, is captain of the Canadian womens team. INDIANAPOLIS -- Andrew Luck and Robert Mathis finally got the Colts out of their funk and back into their playoff groove Sunday. All they have to do now is keep playing this way. Luck threw two touchdown passes, Mathis broke the Colts single-season and career records for sacks by forcing a safety in the second half and the Colts rolled past Houston 25-3 in their best overall performance in two months. "We needed it," coach Chuck Pagano said. "We talked all week about coming back and even though we had clinched the division, we wanted to start building or gaining some momentum." Houston (2-12) extended its franchise-record losing streak to 12 and fell to 0-12 all-time in Indy. The timing for the Colts late-season turnaround couldnt be better. After losing 42-28 at Cincinnati last week, the Colts (9-5) learned on the bus trip home they had clinched the AFC South title when Denver beat Tennessee. At the time, it looked as if the Colts would be locked into the No. 4 seed and would have little to play for. But with Denver (11-3) losing Thursday night, New England (10-4) losing Sunday at Miami, Indy winning and Cincinnati playing Sunday night at Pittsburgh, the door has cracked just a bit -- if the Colts win their final two games. The problem, from November through Sunday, was that Indy had not played anywhere near well enough to string back-to-back wins together. Over those previous six games, Indy lost three times by at least two touchdowns and was outscored 114-24 in the first halves. Things suddenly changed dramatically. Luck went up-tempo right from the start and used a heavy dose of bubble screens to open things up down the field. It worked well. He finished 19 of 32 for 180 yards with the two first-half TD passes that gave the Colts a 20-3 halftime lead. Indy played without two starting offensive linemen, lost replacement starter Joe Reitz with a concussion on the opening series and lost running back Donald Brown with a stinger later in the first half. "We practice it," Luck said of the decision to go no-huddle early. "We have had some success with two-minute hurry up so its good to come out and do that." The defence forced punts and turnovers and got a safety on Mathis record-breaking sack. Punnt returner Griff Whalen even set up a score with a 51-yard return.dddddddddddd But the excitement was muted. They still settled for three field goals and Luck was picked off in the red zone when he tried to force a ball into coverage. "We looked like a team that lost 11 in a row playing a good football team," interim coach Wade Phillips said in his first game since Gary Kubiak was fired. "I thought we could compete with them, but we didnt do a good job of that." Most of Houstons problems were self-inflicted, again. Case Keenum was 18 of 34 for 168 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. Andre Johnson, who needed five catches for another 100-reception, caught four balls for 18 yards. Ben Tate rushed 16 times for 72 yards and was fortunate not to lose a fumble. Houston also finished with 14 penalties, 10 in the first half. "That was bad today," said Keenum, whose fumble was recovered in the end zone by left tackle Duane Brown after Mathis strip sack. "My teammates deserve better, my coaches deserve better. Our fans deserve better." Luck opened the game by throwing a 14-yard TD pass to Whalen for Indys first opening-drive touchdown since Week 3. After Houstons Randy Bullock made a 49-yard field goal, Darius Butler picked off Keenum to set up Adam Vinatieris 37-yard kick. Luck made it 17-3 when he faked another receiver screen, then flipped the ball on a shovel pass to Trent Richardson for a 9-yard score. And after Butlers second interception, Vinatieri made a 43-yard field goal and Indy led 20-3. "We played good football today, kept the mistakes to a minimum and were just able to get after it," Mathis said. "A little bit of stuff here and there we can improve on, but for the most part, good football." Notes: Mathis, the NFL sacks leader, has 16 1/2 this season and 108 in his career. Longtime teammate and close friend Dwight Freeney held the Colts previous marks, getting 16 in 2004 and 107 1/2 in his career. ...
