I believe I would prefer to sacrifice items rather than throw them
The majority of those items are only"useless" due to bottling or enormous resource influx from terrible boss drop tables. They used to be worthless back in 07 or for quite a while in OSRS. Additionally, RuneScape sport has basically zero item sinks due to deaths being 100% secure for many years now. Things not being sunk will eliminate significance as new ones come into RuneScape game far quicker than they are needed by players. Does not mean it isn't happening because it is occurring slow for higher value items. It's not like that is suggesting we artificially create bamboo longbow(u) 10k for your day.
It's declared on the day no? Otherwise, there's no point to a item of the day at all. That is speaking about what happens on the day. Many times, the players would be the people who play with the maximum. They will be here every day when the item changes to buy out all of them to resell in a mark up or sacrifice to your hole. Again, just because it is not declared doesn't mean it is not going to occur. You're severely underestimating how this community functions.
Does the item must be declared or made known in any way? One solution would be to just not reveal the product, let us say Yew logs have been selected as the thing for this day. No one will know until the item is to be picked and also the buyout won't happen, so obtained from the day before whenever the item is changed the yes logs will be purchased out with the gp and a brand new item will be selected. If someone guesses the item should make it literally impossible to match the system on goal, it could be chance.
You continue giving yew logs' illustration, have you considered the price has gone down, for them for what they are? There's just not much use bots cause the inflation a bit but can't expect a log in level 60 with the debut of wintertodt and to my knowledge bolts along with darts being the fletching xp. At the old day people were not as effective as it is realizing I could 2 tick teaks for a few hours and be in no time at 60 so that 60 woodcutting was not as common. Add this logic into a other products. The item's usage tremendously dictates the cost aswell.
I believe I would prefer to sacrifice items rather than throw them. Kind of like how you can forfeit bones onto a god altar. There should be god altars concealed about Runescape that any thing can be forfeited to (should be unnoted). Each altar could grant a time-limited buff that is unique stackable up to 3 god fans. New god item makeup might also be a pet reward opportunity, in addition to a reward. For instance of a buff: If you forfeit enough items to the Saradomin altar, the Luck of Saradomin is gained by you. This enthusiast could last 24 hours until triggered. This buff gives your character a chance to restore 50 hit points your character falls into zero HP. Once triggered, the buff has to be earned by sacrificing to the altar. Buff operates on PVM rather than PVP.
